Land freight and cross-border trucking

Container haulage to and from the port, door-to-door trucking, and cross-border movements across mainland Southeast Asia.

Overview

Land Freight

For Thailand's neighbours, road is frequently faster than sea and very much cheaper than air. A truck leaving Bangkok can reach most of mainland Southeast Asia in days, and for a shipment that would otherwise be transhipped through two ports, overland is often the shorter route in practice as well as on the map.

The difficulty with cross-border road is rarely the driving. It is the border: the transit paperwork, the trailer interchange, and the fact that two customs administrations both have to be satisfied on the same day.

  • Container haulage — Collection and return of containers between the port or depot and your factory, scheduled against the vessel's cut-off rather than against a generic lead time.
  • Cross-border road freight — Overland movements to and from neighbouring markets, with the transit documents and border formalities arranged before the vehicle leaves.
  • Domestic distribution — Onward delivery within Thailand after import clearance, including multi-drop runs where one import is going to several receiving points.
  • Full and part loads — A dedicated vehicle where the volume or the timing needs one, consolidated space where it does not.
  • Equipment to match the cargo — Flatbed, curtainside, box and temperature-controlled trailers, plus the skeletal chassis used for containers moving to and from the port.
  • Border clearance at both ends — Export formalities on the Thai side and import formalities at destination, coordinated so the vehicle is not waiting on a document that could have been filed a day earlier.

Good to know

Three things that decide the cost and the timing

The border is the schedule

Crossing points keep their own hours and their own peak days, and a vehicle that arrives after closing waits until the next working period. We plan departures around the crossing, not only around the distance.

Two administrations, one shipment

An overland movement is an export and an import on the same journey. Both declarations are prepared in advance so the truck is not the place where a classification question gets discovered.

Road and sea are not exclusive

Trucking to a nearer port and shipping from there is sometimes cheaper and faster than either mode alone. We will price the combination where it is worth comparing.

Common questions

Land Freight: common questions

Which countries can you reach by road from Thailand?

Thailand shares land borders with Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia, and onward road connections reach Singapore to the south and Vietnam and southern China through the Greater Mekong corridors. Which crossing is right depends on the goods and on what each border currently permits, so we confirm the routing when we quote rather than assuming the shortest line on the map.

Can you collect a container from my factory and return it to the port?

Yes — that is standard container haulage and it is part of most FCL bookings we handle. The scheduling is planned against the vessel's documentation and container cut-off times, which are usually earlier than shippers expect, and we confirm those dates with the booking rather than leaving them to be discovered.
